The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Leadership and Academic Success Program is a highly focused program designed specifically to benefit those students studying in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Funded jointly through the National Science Foundation and implemented in collaboration with Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Northeastern University and the University of Rhode Island, the main objective of the program is to enhance the numbers of historically underrepresented students who graduate in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

LSAMP Scholars are selected in the summer prior to their freshman year at the University of Connecticut and participate in four major programmatic areas of the program: (1) Academic Enhancement Supplemental Courses and Activities, (2) Mentoring Relationships, (3) Leadership & Academic Development Workshops, and (4) Outreach and Community Service Initiatives.

Support from Pfizer Incorporated Global Research and Development has also been instrumental in the successful launching of this new program.
This grant runs through Summer 2006.
