Dear Students, Parents, Friends, and Community Members:

I am pleased to welcome you to the University of Connecticut and introduce you to the Office of the Vice Provost for Multicultural and International Affairs (OMIA). Created by the Board of Trustees in 1997 and later expanded to include International Affairs in 2002, OMIA is the University’s point office on multicultural and international issues.

As a member of the Provost’s senior leadership team, the Vice Provost for Multicultural and International Affairs ensures that diversity is a key consideration in all budgetary, administrative, academic, and governance decisions. The Office of the Vice Provost provides leadership to those units whose purpose is to promote an understanding of, and respect for, diversity, international affairs, multiculturalism, and equity. These units include cultural and academic support centers, research centers and institutes, and the offices and programs charged with maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations and policies.

This website provides an overview of the people, units, and initiatives of the Office of the Vice Provost for Multicultural and International Affairs. Although we cannot provide comprehensive information about each program and unit, we encourage you to visit their individual web sites or request information about programs and services directly.

We emphasize that our centers and institutes are for all members of our UConn community, and not only for students of color, international, or other students generally associated with “diversity” areas.

We are committed to the work that we do within OMIA and hope that you will take the time to explore our many programs, initiatives, and courses. I hope that you find this website useful, and I join with my colleagues in wishing you the best of success in your endeavors with the University of Connecticut. Please do not hesitate to be in touch if we can assist you in any way.

Sincerely,
